CARDBOArD WALLPAPER

Growing up in a small Tennessee town as one of twelve kids, (or fourteen or sixteen, depending on how you counted), was both a blessing and a curse. It was the best of times. It was the worst of times. We had no running water, three to a bed, ice on the inside of the windows and cardboard for wallpaper. And a Daddy who couldn’t stay away from women and booze. We younger kids didn’t really know much about the latter but the older ones had firsthand knowledge. Being one of the younger ones, every week for as long as I can remember, we had fried chicken for Sunday dinner. Before dinner, Daddy would get out his old Harmony Patrician guitar and our cousins would come over and “make music”. The fiddle, the banjo, the harmonica and whatever other instrument showed up brought the sound of the day. We kids would dance barefoot while we smelled the fried chicken wafting from the kitchen window. I can see this in my mind as I write these words. The funny thing, any time company was there, they always got first dibs on the fried chicken dinner. We kids got whatever was left…sometimes nothing.

This collection of songs on “Cardboard Wallpaper” reflects the life stories of my family during these times.

A heartfelt thank you to my brothers and sisters for being so generous as we reflected on our family history. And, for allowing me the opportunity to tell their individual stories through music and song. While several of our siblings are no longer with us, it was especially important to make sure their stories were a true reflection of who they were in life. This journey of discovery has been colorful, sometimes painful, but always with the intention to cherish the memories. I am honored to be the member of my loving family who tells our story.

This album is dedicated to my son, Conor. My desire for him is to know our southern family heritage and to understand the past that has led to his present. I also dedicate this collection to my parents who lived in a time when choices were limited and options were few. - Patsy Sue

WHAT THEY ARE SAYING ABOUT…

CD_Cover_S.jpg

I have had a very blessed life. I’ve been able to play guitar, produce and engineer many, many albums. Along the way you meet some extraordinary artists. Singers, songwriters, musicians. But if once in your career you meet an artist who is beyond extraordinary, an artist who seems to create the impossible, you are blessed indeed.

I was fortunate to have met that artist in Patsy Sue. A highly successful business woman, highly educated, creative, talented. But then one day she decided to write her family’s life story. 13 stories of siblings and parents. Extraordinary stories.

As if that wasn’t enough, she decided they should be turned into songs. And boy did she turn them into songs. Well someone had to sing those songs, and hopefully record them. It just made sense that the most logical person to do that would be the person who was there and experienced every one of those stories. That person was the writer Patsy Sue.

Well then a whole new journey began. Because Patsy had to learn how to sing. Never one to step back from a challenge, she studied, practiced and worked very hard to become a singer. A wonderful singer.

As one can imagine this extensive project was not without major hurdles. But again Patsy would never step back and walk away. She stepped up and created a spectacular album project.

I feel so honored to have been able to help her complete this exceptional dream. - Iam Ford Keene, Producer

Cardboard Wallpaper is truly a masterpiece made of love.

Patsy Sue’s contribution to music is undeniable. Cardboard Wallpaper is not your usual singer-songwriter album project. This masterpiece transcends and transports us to a world alive with impactful memories.

Each song pays tribute to an adored family member. The music is captivating and each individual’s life story is given a special flavor with incredible storytelling, catchy tunes, skilled musicianship and masterful production. Pat’s voice is pure and real, and she sings of triumph, loss, redemption, pain, but mostly of love which is what this project is all about. - B. Rohde

I think your CD came out beautifully!

I'm honored to have been a part of the recording. Your songs tell an amazing story of your family and it was nice hearing you tell their stories in the studio and see the photos in the CD package. - G. Leisz

I received your CD yesterday. What a wonderful job! I enjoyed every aspect: songwriting, your vocals and great musicianship. And what a story! Congratulations on a job well done! - R. Wenzel

Sonically unbelievable! Wonderful voice! - N. Renson

Your CD is incredible! I've listened to it several times and read all the lyrics many, many more times. What a picture it gives of how you grew up - so different from from most of us. The title, Cardboard Wallpaper, really captures the images in my head. I feel like I've met your sisters and brothers after hearing their stories. Moody's story is so very sad. Now I want to ask what's happened to those who are still living. Luke, Ken, Marty? Who's still in Tennessee and is anyone still in L.A?

Besides the story content, the music, the songwriting and your voice are all terrific too. No wonder you've wanted to do this for so long. It's really a tribute to your family and could be a start of a new career for you if you want it. You could be writing songs on the side for many country artists and singing your own.

You're really really good!!! - L. Taber

I LOVE it. I Really do. I love the stories and the music and the instrumentation not to mention your voice.

On lots of albums, the songs all sound the same.  You didn't fall into that.  Each song has it's own tempo and mood and identity, different from the one before.  Really nice and easy to listen to. - T. Taber

I am so impressed with this culmination of so much work - you brought into being something beautiful and poignant and very personal.

I love the passion that you have for your family and for music - just very impressive and I can't imagine how much work goes into something this well written and produced.

It is truly a gift that I will cherish. - M. Winningham

Omg! I can’t believe you put all that together. Truly amazing. But just WOW! This is real country - none of that fake stuff I’ve been hearing. Sounds great! Some of the tunes have an Allison Krause feel to them. - G. Maisnik

It's wonderful! “Cardboard Wallpaper” coming to a venue near you. Really could be a broadway play or musical. Really really good. Fun to look at the pictures while you listen.

All your hard work and energy will pay off.

Excellent singing and songwriting too! - S. Lowry

I finished listening through Cardboard Wallpaper again and finally wrote some notes for you below.  I also attached some marketing ideas.  Your voice is so eloquent Pat. Great range too!  What a great memory for all the details of each siblings life you hold given you left home after college.

My favorite songs are Dear Daddy and Daddy & Mommy!

Love the melody of Cardboard Wallpaper

Love the "oh yeah" voice and electric guitar on Married Actin Single

Love the electric guitar of "Lost His Way"

Love "Never Wrong" lyrics as I think many men and woman can relate to someone is there life that is never wrong; mostly men.  Love the double chorus where you say "just ask him"  I felt like you were in the room with me.  Where are Jack's children now?  Do you see them?

Paper Bag Christmas is so profound as so many countries and people in the world can relate to a simple holiday with no gifts but lots of celebration.  The Jingle Bells by Coast Kids adds a punch of simple fanfare.

Dear Daddy:  I love the lower octave you sing here.........and it comes across powerfully strong from you as a daughter.

Daddy & Mommy:  My favorite lyrics here are "You know I want to leave you" and hearing the powerful vocals of Jasin Andino sing "But you've got no where to go" as so many woman are faced with this dilemma.   How did you get Jasin to sing?

I have gotten to know more about each one of your siblings and was surprised to hear how many of your siblings left Jamestown for Los Angeles.  Was that common?  Did you move to Los Angeles for opportunity or to be closer to your siblings?

Much applaud to you my friend.  You poured your heart and soul into this music album.  I bet your siblings are so so proud of you too!

Did you ever ask Conor to play guitar for the album?

So how many siblings are still living?

I know someone will be interested in covering your music......so much truth told. - L. Mastoris

Dear Pat, it’s taken me until today to find an hour free when I could be in the same room as a CD player. I just finished then entire album and want you to know how proud and blown away I am about your extraordinary accomplishment!! I haven’t had the pleasure of listening to a “concept album” in so many years and the entire experience was awesome. And so much better because I know the artist!! Thank you for putting yourself out there sharing this amazing family story with the world and doing so in a way that is uniquely YOU!! A million bravos to you!! - R. Levee

I’ve worked with and for Pat for over 30 years. It was only in the last several years that I became aware of her singer/songwriter talents. She had kept her dream a secret for decades. But sooner or later the need to create comes to the surface. Her journey is remarkable and all the songs on the CD reflect what that journey has been for her and her family. Not only are the songs stunning, the production values are incredible. As I listen to the CD, I’m amazed at how clean the sound is. Everything about Cardboard Wallpaper is astonishing. - M. Nelson

Great musicians on it! Did I hear Marti a couple times??

Well written songs!

Did you write all of them?

Awesome!!

And my mom loved it! - C. Spurgin

Absolutely love your voice.  You move from Patsy Cline to June Carter to Karen Carpenter with ease!  From the heart album...you do know how hard it will be to replicate!

Production was really solid! Cheers to your musicians! Drove a great blue grass, singer songwriter sound. Man you really let us escape into the album!

Favorites are:

Bible Selling Man - so hooky!

Velvet Elvis (blue suede shoooooooz).  The sultry extension of the shoes note is the hallmark of the song.

Too Drunk To Dream - so sad but so glad I got to know Vickie!

Paperbag Christmas- you wrote a Christmas song...holy shit! - R. Torres

I love the album, you have a new fannnnnnnnn - A. Lopez
